Traffic on the highway.

About:

Help us help you! The Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) and surrounding areas are growing faster than ever. As our population grows, coordinated planning around future transportation needs is critical.

The Transportation Tomorrow Survey provides a wealth of valuable information to help us plan a better transportation system. That's why local and provincial agencies are working together to conduct this very important household travel study.

Thank you for your interest in the Transportation Tomorrow Survey. The survey administration period is now complete. Please feel free to contact the project team should you have any questions regarding your survey data.

TTS has been conducted since 1986

The Transportation Tomorrow Survey (TTS) is a confidential and voluntary travel survey on how Ontarians in the Greater Golden Horseshoe and surrounding areas use the transportation system. The TTS has been conducted every five years since 1986. The data collected helps local and regional governments, as well as the province and transit agencies, make transportation planning and investment decisions.

The TTS 2023 is jointly undertaken by 25 funding agencies including the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), Metrolinx, the TTC, and municipalities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe and surrounding areas.

An independent, Canadian research firm, R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd., has been contracted to administer the survey.

Your participation is important!

If you received a letter or a phone call from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, you have been randomly selected to participate in the study and have the chance to shape your region's transportation future! Please use the access code on your survey invitation letter to log in and complete your survey.

If you have not received a letter or a phone call about this survey, you can still participate by generating your own access code. Click "generate" to receive your access code and use this code to log in to the survey.

The goal of the survey is to understand where people are going and how they get there by collecting information on the trips made by each member of your household. The information you provide will be used to make informed transportation decisions on future planning and investment for roads, public transit, and other transportation facilities to make it easier to get where you need to go.

It is important that we gather information from residents from all walks of life who use any mode of transportation - including drivers, public transit users, cyclists, and pedestrians - regardless of how many trips they took. It is equally important that we hear from residents who might not have made any trips that day, as this data is essential to understanding travel patterns, especially in light of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on transportation.

Participants can choose to complete the survey online or by phone. The survey will take approximately 10-20 minutes depending on the size of your household and number of trips. It is extremely important all your data is entered completely and accurately.

How do I participate?

You can participate in one of two easy ways:

Your Privacy is Assured

The TTS team is dedicated to protecting the privacy of its participants. Your survey responses will be combined with others' responses before they are analyzed. Your contact information will only be used to contact you for follow up about the survey.

Your responses are being collected to help the Ministry of Transportation identify travel patterns in the Greater Golden Horseshoe and surrounding areas, in accordance with the Ministry's traffic planning and road safety mandate under provincial legislation. Responses must be collected first in identifiable form for survey validation purposes, but will then have all identifiers securely removed, and will not be held by the Ministry at any time in identifiable form.

Names, addresses, and phone numbers are destroyed at the conclusion of the survey's data collection phase and before responses are received by the Ministry or its funding partners. For more information please refer to the Privacy Statement.
